Saturdays July 9 - July 30 from 1 - 2:30 PM ARIZONA TIME Online via Zoom*
While “mindfulness” has become popularized, much has been lost from the original teachings attributed to the Buddha. My courses are designed to ground you in a firm understanding and practice of mindfulness as understood in the Buddhist Yoga tradition, and with an emphasis on cultivating mindfulness in the midst of our full and busy lives.
Through the meditative techniques of samatha-vipassana, (calming and insight) you will learn how to explore the ways you currently relate to your own experience. Feelings (and here I am NOT talking about emotions, but the sensorial experience of, and throughout the body) arise and pass away incessantly, and our conditioned reactions to them can cause us and those around us much suffering. Mindfulness of feelings can take us from conditioned reactivity to a more creative and skillful response.
This is meditation as the true fruit of Yoga – meditation as a way of life, recapturing and integrating all the facets of our lives so that we can delight in the joy, peace and equanimity that arise from understanding the truth of who we really are.
Suitable for beginners with no previous experience, as well as those who wish to sharpen their meditative skills, in Mindfulness of Feelings we engage with the body in order to develop the concentration, awareness, and compassion needed to remain open and awake to all that we encounter in our daily lives.
This course will run for four weeks, meeting on Saturdays in July starting July 9th and ending July 30th. Each week will include a talk, a short yoga practice, and meditation and will be recorded in case you can not attend the live classes. You will receive audio recordings of the classes and practices for you to keep, along with printed pdf handouts.
